What fabrics are generally used to make wedding dresses and formal wear?

When making wedding dresses, it is very important to match the fabric with the style. Ignoring the correspondence between fabric and style will affect the final appearance of the wedding dress. Therefore, it is very important to match the style with the fabric or the fabric with the style. If we want to make a special style, we need to find a fabric that matches the style. If we have already purchased the fabric, we need to consider whether the lines of the style and the characteristics of the fabric are suitable. For example, heavier and smoother fabrics such as crepe or georgette are suitable for straight skirts or small trumpet skirts with vertical dividing lines, such as princess line skirts. If the style has a larger silhouette, we should choose harder and lighter fabrics such as silk or satin.
1. Taffeta
Taffeta is light, shiny, harder, smooth, but easy to wrinkle. It is woven from natural silk or synthetic fibers, and the fabric structure is very tight.
Taffeta is also called a changeable fabric. Its warp and weft have subtle color differences, especially in the light or in motion can emit a charming brilliance. Garments made of taffeta can produce beautiful effects, but they require great care and difficult sewing.
Taffeta edges are very easy to frizz. When ironing, use low temperature dry ironing. Because the iron temperature is too high, it will change the color of the fabric, and a little water on the fabric will cause indelible stains. If the fabric is not laid flat during ironing, but has folded parts, it will form creases after ironing, and even if it is laid flat and ironed again, the creases will not disappear.
When sewing, use very fine needles, because ironing directly on the fabric will form small holes at the needle eye, which will be seen in the clothing modification.
2. Mesh
Mesh is a very fine, light and transparent fabric. It is composed of regular round holes or diamond holes of different sizes. There are many types of mesh.
One is a soft mesh with dense round holes, which is used for evening dress tops or for making skirts and waves; the other is a harder and thicker mesh called fishnet, which is generally used for skirts with larger silhouettes.
3. Lace
Lace is a fabric with a hollow pattern on a piece of fabric with warp and weft or a mesh fabric (such as mesh).
The pattern of lace is made by hand or machine woven with silk or synthetic fibers of different thicknesses. This fabric is very fragile and not easy to process on. If necessary,
the lace can be placed on the base fabric to fill its transparent parts, which prevents it from deforming and makes processing easier.
There are different types of lace, such as elastic lace, calais lace and embossed lace.
Elastic lace - smooth, it is woven from synthetic fibers and elastic fibers and is often used for underwear. Its elasticity is reflected in the length and width direction, that is, bielastic.
Calais lace - a tulle-like material, woven by machine, very precious and luxurious. Its name comes from its place of origin.
Embroidered lace - thick lace, the pattern is divided from each other. The pattern is first embroidered on the base fabric by hand or machine, and then part of the base fabric is cut off or dissolved by cutting or chemical methods to obtain a hollow effect.
4. Yarn
Yarn comes from silkworm cocoons and is a soft and shiny fabric. Even in the face of price competition from synthetic fabrics that imitate its weaving method, it still maintains its status as a precious and high-end fabric.
5. Lining
Lining is a double-sided, soft, shiny and smooth fabric. It is woven in the warp and weft directions from natural or synthetic fibers. There are many types of linings, such as satin fabrics, taffeta, silk, nylon, polyester or viscose.
The lining should not only match the style of the clothing, but more importantly, it should match the fabric of the clothing.
The choice of lining depends on its application.

- Lining for the body: Lining can be thin or thick, and can be used for skirts, coats, suit jackets, pants, etc.
- Lining for the sleeves: deep stripes and light fabric.
- Lining for the pockets: strong and durable.
